Princess Rahma University College

The college was founded in 1965 as the Jordanian Institute for Social Work and as a result of cooperation with the United Nations and under the umbrella of the Ministry of Social Development to teach the specialization of Social Work at the level of Diploma degree. In 1982 and because of the kingdom’s needs to provide specialists in Special Education, the institute developed a program in Special Education at the diploma degree level to serve people with special needs and it was the only institute that teaches this specialization in Jordan.

In 1991 the college was moved from Amman to Allan area - Balqa governorate under the name of Princess Rahma College for Social Work. And after the establishment of Balqa Applied University in 1997 the college moved to work under the umbrella of the

BAU as Princess Rahma University College. Therefore, the college grants a Bachelor Degree in Social Work early in 1999 and a Bachelor Degree of Special Education degree in 2001. In 2009 the Department of Crime and Delinquency was established. The number of faculty members is 56, administrative staff is 128 and the number of students is 1400 for the academic year 2012/2013.

The collage is located in Allan area on about 63 000 squire meter. Allan is a small town eight Kilometers north of Salt City, Balqa Governorate. It is a hilly and rural area located thirty five kilometers from the capital Amman. It is surrounded by oak and pine trees. It is also famous for olive trees and vine, which gives it beautiful natural scenery. The climate is temperate in summer and winter. As one of the first colleges based outside a capital city, Princess Rhama University College has a long tradition of serving the local region and regions elsewhere in Jordan.

For over 50 years Princess Rhama University College has not only provided the broad range of high-quality offerings expected from any college, but has also built significant strength and expertise through attention to a range of regional issues. Now, the college is capitalizing on that expertise by focusing on “regionality” at domestic, national and international levels.
